WARFIELD combines the descriptive, cinematic storytelling he’s known for with brooding melodies, undeniable beats, and high-energy rockers. This debut solo project of She Wants Revenge lyricist and singer, Justin Warfield, is infused with the spirit of early-80s Los Angeles Deathrock, classic British 80s Alternative, and modern international Dark Wave. As with all his previous projects, Justin draws influence from the past and flips it to create something new in his own inimitable way.
Long before She Wants Revenge exploded onto the scene in 2006, Justin gained critical and mainstream attention with the 1991 Hip-Hop hit, “Season of The Vic”, followed by his 1993 debut hip-hop album, My Field Trip to Planet 9, produced by QD3, Prince Paul, and himself. Critically acclaimed and considered by some to be the first “Trip-Hop” release, the album blended Justin’s classic rock, New Wave, and Native Tongue influences to form his own version of the genre.
Over the years, he has collaborated, remixed, and been featured on songs with artists such as Placebo, Bomb the Bass, Depeche Mode, The Chemical Brothers, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Cornershop, Gary Numan, Childish Gambino, The Crystal Method, and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Additionally, Justin has released albums with projects including Dream Club, Forever Never Changes, and the 2011 Hip-Hop mixtape The Black Hesh Cult.
Unlike his past projects, which were primarily meant to document a moment in time and play local shows with friends, WARFIELD is a proper solo endeavor—both in recording and touring. Alongside the release of six singles and multiple bodies of work in 2025, he will embark on an extensive tour across North America, the UK, Australia, and both Eastern and Western Europe.
Now, after a career spanning multiple genres, styles, and eras, Deathrock Devotionals Vol. I merges elements from all of his past projects while channeling a raw, stripped-down, dark, and frenetic energy. Citing influences such as Kommunity FK, Siouxsie, early Christian Death, Super Heroines, The Nymphs, Killing Joke, Skeletal Family, The Damned, and Xmal Deutschland—alongside evergreen favorites like The Smiths and New Order—WARFIELD embodies the spirit of what’s come before while forging a new path forward.
The debut single, “All The Fun (Kiss, Kiss, Kiss)”, is fast, fun, and furious, evoking the atmosphere of an underground all-ages party in an East LA warehouse. Its follow-up, “Jet Plane”, is an all-out propulsion, engines on full blast, calling to mind the B-52’s and The Pretenders, yet retaining Justin’s signature cadence and tone. The rest of the EP delivers first-listen earworms, thick with the scent of clove cigarettes, fog machines, and late nights.
With Deathrock Devotionals Vol. I, WARFIELD marks his arrival as a solo artist, offering a familiar voice to longtime fans while ushering in a new era of Deathrock for both a fresh generation of baby bats and OGs alike.
