It’s a super(ish) group.
Nick Hodgson from Kaiser Chiefs
Pete Denton from The Kooks
Ben Gordon from The Dead 60s
Glenn Moule from Howling Bells
And Tom

It started as a solo album, the follow up to Nick’s Tell Your Friends (2018) but unlike that record, this would be a collaboration. Good friend Justin Parker, (famous for co-writing Video Games with Lana Del Rey and Stay for Rihanna), came in to work on lyrics… The idea of collaboration was gaining momentum.

Nick invited Ben Gordon, piano player and former guitarist in The Dead 60s to join. Tom Dawson, guitar guru and great pal from Leeds, Pete Denton, ex-bass player from The Kooks, and Glenn Moule, drummer from Howling Bells, quickly followed and Everyone Says Hi was born. In the studio in 2023, the band vibes continued as they recorded the album with Nick as producer. Dan Grech and Lee Smith mixed the record and ESH signed a deal with Chrysalis Records soon after.

The ESH sound owes a lot to what Nick calls ‘analogue hour’: “After dinner at my house, we listen to a record, no phones, TV, or remote control, just put it on and take it all in.” REM, Father John Misty, The Strokes, Cigarettes After Sex, Carol King, Brothers Johnson, Harry Styles, Kate Bush, Daft Punk, The Meters, Mac Demarco, Elliot Smith, John Lennon, Alvvays, War On Drugs and a whole range of classics. After a few weeks of this Nick was feeling inspired and began writing the album.

By the way, the band name comes from a David Bowie song…
