The Agitator – Give Me All That You Got

‘Give Me All That You Got’ is the stomping new single from The Agitator, the new purveyor of No!-ism. Stripped down, powerful and in your face, it’s a back to basics rock n roll song made up of just voice and rhythm that harks back to a bygone era but belonging very much to the 21st Century. Its message is a soundtrack for these current times of unrest, a modern day protest song that rails against complacency in our consumerist culture.

The Agitator, aka 23 year old Derek Meins, is not happy. Not happy about the fact that society and in particular young people, tend to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to issues that directly affect their lives. Yes, politics is mind numbingly boring, but if you don’t have any money, can’t find a job, or are fed up being ripped off, wouldn’t it be better to do something about it than moan? He hates the fact we listen to and regurgitate vapid music, put up with dumbed down journalism, that we’re bombarded with so much information that we don’t have the time to seek out the stuff that matters, that we keep in touch with friends via Facebook rather than actually meeting and talking. He’s unhappy that we’d rather watch films in 3D that look at the real world around us and that we read books off screens. He hates the fact that the country is full of tribes who think they’re cool but are identikit copies of everyone else in their little groups. And he does not like David Cameron’s face.

We exist in a dazed state of collective acceptance, so used to all that is badly wrong that we hardly even register it, much less put up a fight. So the Agitator would like to propose a simple device to help: NO!-ism.

Is the plastic music you hear pumped from radios every day relevant to your life? NO! Are you happy to be treated like sheep by advertising giants? NO! Should a tiny fraction of the population own most of our country? NO! Is it fair that we have to repay the money lost by the City's bonus-bulging bankers? NO! Should our economies be used as casinos for super-rich financiers? NO! Should we be at war? NO! Should we accept the worsening opportunities for the young? NO! Are we content with the pathetic level of truth we get from our politicians? NO! Is it enough to live in desperate pursuit of more possessions, money and pleasure? NO!

We are bombarded with useless information whilst we ignore what’s most important. We dumbly consume anything dangled before us like carrots, while kept in check by the state’s many sticks. Believing in your own opinions enough to challenge society may not be easy, it may seem almost impossible, but we cannot continue burying our heads in the sand.

The Agitator is not asking that you come up with anything so fantastical as a plan to save the world. (he doesn’t have one). All he asks is that you look around and if you find that you don’t agree with something, simply say so. Loudly and often.

There was once a sense in the air that the world could be re-imagined. The Agitator wants us to breathe that kind of air – don’t you?

Before we can redesign the future, we must confront the present.

Say No! And give it all that you got.
