Mumdance – Don't Forget Me Now

Mumdance, aka Jack Adams, this week dropped his Mum Decent EP, his debut solo EP and his first release for Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

What does Mumdance’s debut solo EP sound like? Well, as you may expect it pretty much laughs in the face of classification. Starting with ‘Don’t Forget Me Now’ featuring regular collaborator Esser on vocals, Jack manages to combine rat-a-tat gunshot rhythms with his signature heavy bass and garage swing, melodic chanting, emotional synth breakdowns and did we mention this was all the backdrop to a heartfelt love song? ‘Smasher’ is a straight up club banger, well we say straight up… as Oriental-sounding piano keys gently weave their way in over the standard rawkus afro-beat rhythms, they soon blow up into an almighty slow, then fast, then slow breakdown to one of the biggest drops you’ll hear all year. And then it happens again and again. A massive, head-turning, speaker-blower if ever we heard one.

The third and final part of the EP ‘Sacrifice’ features MC Badness and, well, it’s one of those tracks that you need to hear to understand. It’s beyond big. Voodoo-like, imagine you’ve just been caught by an unforgiving, primeval tribe deep in the jungle and you’re tied to thick bamboo poles being marched through the hut-village to your soon to be very painful death. This is the soundtrack.

The brand new video for 'Don't Forget Me Now' sees a host of Mighty Boosh-esque fruity and hairy friends belting their juicy little hearts out. Enjoy!
