Alongside Dizzee Rascal and Wiley, (aka ‘The Godfather’), Skepta (aka ‘The King), is considered a veteran of UK grime. Together with his brother JME, Skepta co-founded Boy Better Know one of the most important and influential collectives that revolutionised the grime scene. They are credited as being the first to have developed a business plan to build on their reputation and the entrepreneurial foresight to establish a brand. Boy Better Know became a staple part of youth culture across the country, with a lucrative T-Shirt range, DJ sets, performances around the world and their own record label. As well as their own material Boy Better Know produced tracks, provided lyrics and created artwork for fellow artists on the bourgeoning scene including Tinchy Stryder.

Skepta has always had a big personality so exploring a solo career was inevitable but always with the Boy Better Know family at his core.

Rapper/MC and producer Skepta, also known as Joseph Junior Adenuga was born and raised in Tottenham, North London. His life in music started out as a DJ but he rose to underground notoriety with pirate radio classics DTI and Private Caller.

Skepta has a strong underground fan base and has had a string of club anthems such as Duppy and Too Many Man (the combined total of YouTube views for both videos is in excess of 4 million). He doesn’t create music with the mainstream in mind although this year he’s transcended into this arena achieving chart success with singles Bad Boy (which peaked at Number 26 in spite of having no national radio support) and Rescue Me (which peaked at Number 14 and saw him elevated onto the Radio 1, Kiss, Capital, Choice, 1 Extra and Galaxy FM playlists)

The forthcoming album Doin’ It Again will be Skepta’s third studio album to date. He’s set to crossover without compromise; Skepta does things entirely on his own terms.

A few weeks ago Skepta took grime global with his remix of Diddy Dirty Money’s Hello Good Morning. The track debuted live on DJ Logan Sama’s Kiss FM radio show with both Skepta and Diddy live on the airwaves. The remix which started with a tweet is the most talked about remix in history.

Skepta’s self-produced new single Cross My Heart featuring Preeya Kalidas will be released by Boy Better Know/3 Beat. The track sees Skepta go hard – dramatic strings, underscored by sweeping synths and a bpm heavy bassline, he spits serious bars about life and success to date,”I’ll be the same guy I was from the start, hope to die, cross my heart”.
